Here at 4×4 Queensland, we believe in sharing our real life four wheel drive experiences. It is our goal to share these experiences in order to encourage our customers, to get out there and see this beautiful country.

We recently did a 4×4 trip to the Mount Mee State Forest, which is located around 1 hours north of Brisbane. Mount Mee offers a wide range of tracks for walking and four wheel driving. From beginners’ tracks to more advanced tracks, there is something out there for every level.

We had 7 four wheel drives in total which was an amazing turn out from friends and family. We had a variety of vehicles on the day, including Hilux’s, Landcruisers, Jeeps and a Great Wall, and even though we didn’t do anything too extreme it was an amazing day.

We started at Sellin Rd, and made our way to “The Gantry”. The Gantry is right at the start of this entrance to the state forest, and is easily accessible for 2wd vehicles. The Gantry shelter is part of the sawmill that operated here until 1981. Enjoy a picnic or barbecue at the grassy picnic area or enjoy the two walks that start and finish opposite the picnic area.

The large grassed area is the perfect place for kicking the football or a game of cricket.

From “The Gantry” we set our sights on “Somerset Lookout”. The track offers some great bushland scenery along the way, including a creek crossing. There was also some steep hills, which could be a lot trickier if there had been some more rain. When we finally got there it was stunning, with 270 degree views over the state forest and of course…Somerset Dam.

It was also a good opportunity for Muzza to put his FJ40 on some rock for show.

Looking out over Somerset Lookout, everyone that came on the day were mesmerised. We live in such a beautiful country and we really don’t appreciate where we live.

We moved on from Somerset Lookout in search for a waterhole, and there is not many better than “Rocky Hole”. With running waterfalls most of the year, this swimming hole is always a hit in summer. Its crystal clear water and deep water make it a truly special place in our small world.

We had one final stop after Rocky Hole, lunch! We had worked up an appetite and it was time for a break. We found a nice little picnic area called “Broadwater” on the way out to Mt Archer. This place also had a nice swimming hole, Mt Mee is full of them!!
